Work Experience
August 2022 – Present
Senior User Experience Designer
I lead design across Workiva’s foundational platform systems with a focus on navigation, search, and authentication. I drove the Intelligent Search initiative from concept through launch, working with UX Research to validate concepts and shape outcomes for an AI-powered, context-aware experience. I also led the redesign of Workiva’s global navigation, partnering with UX Research to deliver a scalable shell structure that incorporates a collapsible left nav and a user-focused utility nav. Both efforts required close alignment with the Unify design system to ensure consistency across products.
- Defined authentication functionality, including SSO and passkey support.
- Redesigned the Admin application by fixing its information architecture and realigning its structure for a more usable experience for Admin users.
- Collaborate with product and engineering partners to align design with technical feasibility.
Maintain a user-driven design process that prioritizes real behavior and context to improve consistency, scalability, and user experience across the platform.
October 2016 – July 2021
Senior User Experience Designer
Drove concepting and designed user flows and intuitive interfaces for machine learning, computer vision, and AI software, combining IBM software-hardware solutions. Collaborated with design leads, researchers, and visual creatives to capture, evaluate, and implement user design feedback. Delivered project wireframes, mockups, and prototypes; recommended workflow and process improvements; provided project leadership; and mentored less-experienced team members.
As UX Designer for IBM Maximo Visual Inspection — a computer vision-based AI web application that won a Gold Spark Award for Experience Design (2018) and was featured as a best practice example of IBM Enterprise Design Thinking in an online badge course — I contributed to interaction design, prototyping, and iterative improvements. I also assisted the visual creative team by sketching UX designs and creating a front-end HTML/SCSS build for Open BMC, a small-footprint graphical user interface integrated with a backend REST API.
Led weekly UX cross-functional team meetings with 8–10 UX and UI designers.
September 2011 – May 2016
Interactive Developer
At nFusion my primary role was front-end web developer and UX developer. I utilized my skills in HTML, SCSS, jQuery/Javascript & WordPress to help build creative and sharp responsive websites for a variety of clients. I also worked closely with the interactive and creative teams to build engaging user experiences and well designed user interfaces for projects. Aspects of the position include collaboration with designers and producers, sketching UX concepts, building HTML/CSS prototypes, working on wireframes and style guides, keeping designers in line with web technology.
July 2009 – August 2011
Front-end Developer & UX Designer
e-MDs is a software company that develops EMR solutions for doctors and medical clinics. At e-MDs I began as a front-end web developer working directly with the Creative Director in regards to building the HTML and CSS framework for their sophisticated AJAX solution. I was tasked with building HTML & CSS templates, troubleshooting HTML/CSS issues and help build coding standards for the app. I also managed a team of two other front-end developers, providing assistance, performing code reviews and keeping track of tasks.
Due to growth and my knowledge of the application, my position changed to Information Architect. In this role I worked directly with the Creative Director to work out UI requirements, necessary information and design all aspects of the user interface within the application. I worked with a core team of Business Analysts and Product Specialists to decipher what information and data was to be presented in the application. I then designed and illustrated UX wireframes and high fidelity comps of the UI to include in functional spec documentation.
April 2008 – February 2009
Web Developer & UI Designer
With Powered I was a front-end web developer. My responsibilities included design and front-end coding of community driven, social networking websites and social web applications for use within Powered’s Java based system. This was achieved using Photoshop, HTML, CSS, some Javascript, mark-up within JSP files and using custom tags and libraries in JSP. I also helped with and worked on UI/UX design for sites being built. I worked closely with other designers, developers, programmers and project managers to achieve company goals.
April 2006 – April 2008
Web Developer/QA Engineer
With Alchemy systems I was a front-end web developer and a QA Engineer. My responsibilities included design and creation of websites and web applications for clients. This was achieved using CSS, HTML, some PHP and some Javascript. Sites were developed and built within a PHP based content management system. I worked closely with other designers, developers and programmers to achieve company goals.
I also performed work as a QA Engineer performing both black and glass box testing. With the QA position I was responsible for testing of various web based applications. Responsibilities included test case design and creation, documentation and creation of automated test scripts. I also worked closely with project and business analysts to develop and enhance QA processes for the company.
